Heavy rainfall and lightning alert over Manicaland and Masvingo Province (07-08 January 2023)

Southern Manicaland and Western Masvingo

From today, Saturday 07 January 2023, wide spread thunderstorms are expected over Manicaland, with heavy falls (in excess of 50mm in 6 hours) in some places. These storms which are starting off in the southern parts of Manicaland and spreading northwards as moisture drifts in from the southeast, coupled with a cloud band which drifted in from the west, yesterday Friday 08 January 2023. Similar conditions should spread westward to affect Masvingo as well Provinces. These rains may persist till Sunday 08 January 2023 over the southern parts of Manicaland. The Meteorological Services Department will continue monitoring and issue updates as the system progresses.

Do not cross flooded rivers. Avoid metal objects. Avoid standing in isolated tall trees/sheds. Stay indoors.
